AMA Grand National Singles Champion Ready for Opener
Morris, CT ( February 20, 2008)-- Flat track singles champion, Kenny Coolbeth is ready to trade the harsh cold weather for sunny skies in Daytona. The AMA Grand National Singles Championship opens in Daytona, Florida March 5, and 6 as part of the traditional Bike Week celebrations.
In preparations for the new season, Coolbeth has been hard at work. Training at Mototown USA Sports facility, an indoor track, as well as running a few events at the Middletown Indoors Series in New York; Coolbeth is ready.
The Daytona municipal stadium events are deemed a crap shoot. Both events are exciting, showcasing over a hundred riders all vying for a position to the show. During qualifying about one half of the field is eliminated leaving many riders on different manufacturers competing for the covenant crown.
Coolbeth will have to shine right out of the gate to defend his title. Backed again by Bettencourt’s Honda in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Coolbeth hopes that his training will pay off on both nights at the stadium.
Many events lead up to the Daytona short track singles events, the Hotshoe series and a couple of AMA Pro-Am’s, which gives the riders a chance to test their twin machines that have been sitting since the last race. For Kenny, it provides momentum, and confidence for the two events that count for Grand National points.
Coolbeth’s best finish at the short track was second place which he had earned in 2007. He has many top ten finishes in the years past, but never a win.

The premier New England Honda/Suzuki dealership will provide Hondas to the champ as well as a parts budget. Coolbeth feels if the majority of his program stays the same , he will have a better chance of winning the 2008 Championship.
Bettencourt’s Honda/Suzuki is more than just a dealer. Their tradition stems from patriarch Dick Bettencourt. On Saturday after work was done in the shop, Dick and his wife would attend the local races and watched the kids they supported. It was a weekly outing for them. Dick loved motorcycles and felt supporting the riders made good business sense, and winning makes it all worthwhile.
Coolbeth and Bettencourt’s roll into their third year partnership. Signing on in 2006 Kenny finished sixth with a second place podium at Springfield, Illinois. He had several podiums in 2007 but never a win. His consistency landed his title.

PICKERINGTON, Ohio (December 10, 2007) – AMA Racing has announced the tentative schedule for the 2008 AMA Flat Track Championship.
2008 season highlights include a return to the Indiana State Fairgrounds’ legendary Indy Mile on Sept. 13 for an event to be held in conjunction with the 2008 Red Bull Indianapolis GP at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Additionally, visits to the mile track at Vernon Downs in Vernon, N.Y., on May 31 and Bedford Speedway’s half-mile oval in Bedford, Pa., on June 27 are also planned.
The schedule features 23 total events, 14 of which are GNC Twins races and seven GNC Singles events. Two events are classified as TBD at this time and will be announced later.
The 2008 season will kick off during Bike Week at Daytona Beach, Florida’s Municipal Stadium for a two-night GNC Singles double header on March 5 and 6. The series then moves out West to USA Race Park in Tucson, Ariz., on Apr. 5 before crisscrossing the United States towards the season finale which will take place on an all-new purpose-built half-mile track at Topeka, Kansas’ Heartland Park Topeka on Oct. 4.
Last year Harley-Davidson factory rider Ken Coolbeth became the first to capture both the AMA Grand National Singles and Twins title in the same year. Coolbeth is expected to return to defend his dual championships and be joined by such series standouts as Jake Johnson, Jared Mees, Bryan Smith and Chris Carr, among others.
